love the idea to put a moratorium on data centers. absolutely hate the way bernie and his team are echoing and reifying the deceptive arguments of ai companies.

we were criticizing media for “what does the ai say?” stories two years ago. bernie doesn’t get a pass.

in the end where claude gives him an answer on moratoriums that he doesn’t like, so he pushes back and it gives him the answer he wants is a pretty pure example of the reinforcement bias and sycophancy we talk about with chatbots, but you get the impression he convinced claude he was actually right

@parismarx a moratorium is the right move

data centers are necessary for our digital world, but need to be done sustainably with respect for the environs and the people who live there, not just in whatever place is cheapest/has the least regulations.

and especially not now when it’s being done recklessly to power a dangerous bubble

@parismarx It seemed like some of the point of this was to show the reinforcement bias and sycophancy. I do think he should have had an introduction and/or post-conversation analysis to explain his purpose and rational behind doing this.

it's a fascinating chat and Bernie asks excellent questions. Claude's analysis noted that we are beyond electoral politics regulating AI because of dark money investment. Claudes analysis was succinct and excellent. So I really don't get the comments in this chat. Bernie is warning the world that AI is about to be a huge problem for jobs and society. Everyone is stuck on the AI being obsequious, rather than the point - we need a moratorium on data centers.
