Today I got a voicemail notification on my iPhone for a message that was left on Monday afternoon. Later, our family group chat lit up with new messages but my daughter appeared as Maybe: Fiona Haughey, despite being on our iCloud Family account for the past 10 years.
☝️if you were wondering how well Apple's pivot to being a service company is going. Did they fire their entire QA wing or something recently?
@mathowie Who needs QA when you have AI
@jalefkowit you are ready to head up engineering at any silicon valley company now
@mathowie I got a new iPad and it knocked out my avatar for everything and I can’t add it back
@mathowie you knew at the time it was not such a good idea to name your daughter Maybe.

@mathowie The delayed voicemail notification bug is so weird. I've had that intermittently happen for YEARS and I can't believe they haven't fixed it yet. (Ok, sadly, I *can* believe it, but it disappoints me.)

@mathowie

That sounds like ‘Siri’ sussing out identification from context clues in the text. Instead of from contacts. Which it wants to do even if a more direct connection is made via contacts APIs

But maybe she got a new phone, new number?

@Chancerubbage nope, nothing changed on her end!

@mathowie

After I updated to ios 26, it seemed it wanted to play this inference based guessing game at least once, even if there was no reason to.

I noticed it in at least two different situations, but can’t rember the context.

@mathowie Every so often my iPhone / Mac does that too. It's almost like they do it so we don't get *too* comfortable with their services.
