Welp, seems like #DLSS5 was just a full-screen filter from a single game entire frame.

What a bummer. It looked like the next-gen neural rendering, but it does not changes geometry nor understands material. It just guesses it.

Again, gamers already spoke with 95% of marketshare being NVIDIA cards.

Nvidia Answers my DLSS 5 Questions

@darkghosthunter one of the comments in YouTube also points out the right (our left) nostril. #DLSS5 gets the shadow wrong and uses its area to make a wider nose.

@Fedihacker It's going to be "damaging to the artistic intent" (to put it in a way) until #DLSS5 has access to geometry and lightning data, which means it has to be part of the rendering pipeline.

Meanwhile, it will be just a boastful full screen filter.

@Fedihacker @darkghosthunter it is never going to happen with 5. Integration into the rendering pipeline goes against the very principle of DLSS5 otherwise it would not have been designed around taking the final rendering as input. Also no sane game company is ever going to waste their devs time into updating their engines to provide metadata to DLSS5 for the 10 people in the world who can get their hands on a pair of 5090 cards.

@ppn @Fedihacker Well, the same was said when the RTX 2000 came and look where we are now, with most AAA titles shipping with raytracing.

I'm not against DLSS 5, but rather, an half-assed implementation. Even worse, it's confirmed the model they use is entirely on NVIDIA, no chance to use your own.

@Fedihacker @darkghosthunter All I see are that there are fewer and fewer AAA titles and a lot of them are shipping with extremely disappointing ray tracing implementation where the scope is very limited (hence the introduction of path tracing) and conditional to activating a DLSS 4 full of ghosting issues to make up for the huge performance dip.

DLSS5 is the worst of both worlds. You lose the light simulation, gets terrible AI guessing SSR at the cost of 2 big GPUs.
