I see this effort as a perfect successor to the postmarketOS wiki tables, which relied on manually filled support levels.

It enables tracking across all distributions, different kernel versions, and patchsets.

It’s simple: you run a diagnostics app, and at the end, you can upload the results for everyone to see.

@okias "perfect" is a bit of an overstatement - I always felt the old tables were lacking mostly a curated perspective (what are the deficiencies in support for a given device) that an automated check isn't going to be able to provide

but this does look like an improvement because it will give some concrete metric at least

@migratory @okias The automated checks do go the extra mile, but manual curation is still essential for the nuanced perspective on device support.

This isn’t about superseding the old tables, but rather fine-tuning them with additional metrics. The idea grew out of running the next kernel and the need for regression tracking and deeper checks.

The nice thing is that it’s OS-agnostic, so any OS can benefit from it.
