My decades-long shelf-space crunch continues. The latest eviction victim: this old chonker.

Love the pages of ads in the back of the book. Oh, and several empty, lined pages for you to write your own notes.

If you’re wondering what Mac programming was like back then, take a look.
@siracusa How many times does it say to call MoreMasters()?
@siracusa This may sound like a humble brag but I was really expecting PASCAL…
@siracusa I still have Inside Macintosh, Volumes I-VI sitting on the shelf. Rather dusty!

@siracusa

I picked up the convention of using a prefixed "the-" for an argument meant to live through a single function call while learning to use HyperCard in grade school. It seemed to have gone out of style by the time I later sat down to learn Objective-C for iOS.

@siracusa TBH this looks way easier than any of the stuff they have going on now
@siracusa inMenuBar appears twice in the diagram. Coulda used a little more editing there 🤣
@siracusa I’ve been living this on my SE and Quadra 650. It’s been a lot of fun.
@siracusa the thing is (was?), Metrowerks had the absolutely coolest branding for a compiler EVER. Gotta hand it to them.

@siracusa I only ever used HyperCard and REALBasic back in the day, before PHP became a thing and I moved into web and later iOS

For #MARCHintosh this year my challenge was to write classic Mac programs from scratch using only Toolbox/C (no helpful C++ frameworks) and fulfill my dream of becoming a "real Mac developer"

Ended up making AppleTalk networking tools for #GlobalTalk - a chat client, a pixel canvas and a zone scanner

So many hours of MacsBug… including deciphering user bug reports…

“When a mouse-click occurs in the go away box”. The go away box? The. Go. Away. Box. Why am I only learning this name today?!? Amazing!
@siracusa currently exploring this world with Think C on my Quadra.
