Thar She Blows

Late September, a gorgeous day for whale watching. As a humpback surfaced for a breath, a Rib boat provided scale.

The mountains of Víknafjöll were beautifully lit by the midday sun, streaked with a few cloud shadows. The deep waters of Skjálfandi bay were deep blue in reflection.

"Thar she blows" is a phrase from Herman Melville's "Moby Dick" to indicate the sighting of a whale spout.

@mo

call me crazy but I've never wanted to be on the water next to such a giant!

My first time, I was very nervous, not knowing what to expect. I found that very quickly I was silently encouraging a whale to show. When it did, I was thrilled. I felt safe on the boat, they don't want to get too close to you either!
@mo I'm an alarmist where it comes to me in natural bodies of water. lol It's just me! I'm sure it is very safe. And it certainly provides me with spectacular photos and videos!
