So, the Guardians of Pedophiles (#GOP) really want to disenfranchise women. The #SAVE Act, if passed as written, will remove the right to vote from anyone who has changed their name.

Everyone in the country will be Unregistered To Vote, and will have to reregister, In Person (!) before the deadline for November elections. If you are a man, you will need a certified copy of your birth certificate. If you are a married woman, you will need certified copies of your birth certificate AND your marriage license. You will need to present those AND your ID at the polling place, every time you want to vote. Every time.

I think I’m gonna start a PAC that will pay the filing fee for every woman who wants to divorce her republican husband or needs to go to court to have her name changed back to birth name. Call it AuntieFa’s Matriarchy For The Future Fund. (We can workshop the name.)

@MissConstrue How reliable is the article’s claim that 70 percent of voters support this? The bill is horrible enough as it is, but that level of public support would be horrifying if true.

@bluejay I don’t know what to do with that stat either.

Public support for the SAVE America Act varies slightly across polls, but multiple surveys indicate strong backing. A Harvard CAPS/Harris Poll found that 71% of registered voters support the SAVE America Act, including 69% of independents and half of rank-and-file Democrats.

Rasmussen Reports shows slightly lower support, with 63% of Likely U.S. Voters in favor, including 47% who strongly support it.

Support crosses demographic lines, with 83% of Americans favoring voter ID according to Pew Research, and 84% supporting it per Gallup, including majorities among Democrats, independents, and minority groups.

The republicans have the media on their side, because they own it.

@MissConstrue JFC. This is essentially going to kill any semblance of democracy at the federal level if it passes.

I wonder if anyone has pointed out the poll tax argument to their reps: requiring people to spend money on passports or certified birth certificates in order to vote amounts to an unconstitutional poll tax. I’m gonna go yell at my senators about it this afternoon.

@bluejay My senators are Ted Cruz; 10,000 cockroaches in a badly fitted human suit, and John Cornyn, who has never seen an authoritarian dick he wouldn’t deepthroat, so I don’t expect much from them, they’re both on the record as wanting it, because Diaper Daddy wants it. (Ok, Daddy has no idea what’s going on, Stephen Miller, our shadow president wants it.)
@MissConstrue Oh well. Who was it who said “We don’t fight fascists because we’ll win, we fight fascists because they’re fascists”? Onward.

@MissConstrue @bluejay

If that 70% is a real number it's because most of them don't understand the act as written.

@Sfwmson @MissConstrue Hopefully the open-ended debate scheduled for this week will make those details clear.

@MissConstrue

crazy stupid shit and probably itself illegal since it is essentially a poll tax

@MissConstrue

The article reads like a script for a pro wrestling story arc, which I suppose is appropriate.

@MissConstrue Guardians of Pedophiles - so true.
@MissConstrue since the government is pretending antifa is real, you'd probably be called a terrorist and jailed for life. "The Anti-fascist Matriarchy for the Future Fund" however, cannot be mistaken for a previous "group" that doesn't even exist in the first place.
@Netraven Oh, the way things are going, I'm surprised I haven't been picked up yet, I'll be honest.

@MissConstrue they tried once, but I pretended I was completely bonkers.

Did you know NASA is afraid to go back to the moon because the moon is infested with werewolves. It's their natural environment and they're strongest there. That's why the moon landing images were faked... to get rid of the werewolves! Oh yeah and JFK and MLK Jr. were assassinated by space bears.

Something like that will turn them right off. Cross you off the list. And never come back.

@Netraven Funny anecdote; on the whiteboard by my desk, I have: Short story idea: Werewolves in Space: The Moonless Planet

It's been there for awhile, I've never figured out the story. ;)

@Netraven But also, space bears only makes sense. I say we make it canon. 🎉

@MissConstrue

And I feel like people are the part where if getting ANY of those requirements costs even ONE CENT, that's a poll tax.

@Sfwmson It costs money to get birth certificates, marriage licenses and passports. Plus, the wait time for processing means that if this law is passed, many many women will not be allowed to vote in November because unless they can afford to pay for, and the office provides the ability for rush processing, women may not be able to get all of their papers in order to be allowed to vote.

Which is exactly what the GOP wants. They know how angry women are about Epstein and his enablers in the government.

@MissConstrue Actually a little worse than that, unless they watered it down. Proof of name changes and marriage licenses are NOT included as acceptable documents.

A married woman would need to obtain a passport to vote, if her ID does not match her birth certificate.

@MissConstrue
Presumably, women who have had multiple marriages will need a copy of each marriage certificate to show an unbroken chain of custody.
@bruce Oh Bobs, don't give them any ideas!

@MissConstrue

Everyone in the country will be Unregistered To Vote

I was only able to find the following in the bill - “states must remove noncitizens from their official lists of eligible voters.”
I can’t find where it says “everyone” will be unregistered nor could I find the part that says:

If you are a married woman, you will need certified copies of your birth certificate AND your marriage license. You will need to present those AND your ID at the polling place, every time you want to vote. Every time.

Could you please help with where in the bill this is worded? Thanks. This is an atrocious if true.

Summary of H.R.22 - 119th Congress (2025-2026): SAVE Act

@NotKnown

Read narrowly: the SAVE Act does not textually order every current voter to re‑register from scratch, but it does require every state to verify that every voter is documented the way this bill demands. Married women will need to update their identification documentation in order to vote if the SAVE America Act passes Congress, according to White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt.

Thanks for this. The link you gave is better and more detailed. Appreciate your time in helping me 👍

@MissConstrue great info, but if you’re going to disable quoting, could you please CW your politics posts?
@cwg1231 I'm sorry, disabled what now?

@cwg1231
