So, the Guardians of Pedophiles (#GOP) really want to disenfranchise women. The #SAVE Act, if passed as written, will remove the right to vote from anyone who has changed their name.

Everyone in the country will be Unregistered To Vote, and will have to reregister, In Person (!) before the deadline for November elections. If you are a man, you will need a certified copy of your birth certificate. If you are a married woman, you will need certified copies of your birth certificate AND your marriage license. You will need to present those AND your ID at the polling place, every time you want to vote. Every time.

I think I’m gonna start a PAC that will pay the filing fee for every woman who wants to divorce her republican husband or needs to go to court to have her name changed back to birth name. Call it AuntieFa’s Matriarchy For The Future Fund. (We can workshop the name.)

@MissConstrue How reliable is the article’s claim that 70 percent of voters support this? The bill is horrible enough as it is, but that level of public support would be horrifying if true.

@bluejay I don’t know what to do with that stat either.

Public support for the SAVE America Act varies slightly across polls, but multiple surveys indicate strong backing. A Harvard CAPS/Harris Poll found that 71% of registered voters support the SAVE America Act, including 69% of independents and half of rank-and-file Democrats.

Rasmussen Reports shows slightly lower support, with 63% of Likely U.S. Voters in favor, including 47% who strongly support it.

Support crosses demographic lines, with 83% of Americans favoring voter ID according to Pew Research, and 84% supporting it per Gallup, including majorities among Democrats, independents, and minority groups.

The republicans have the media on their side, because they own it.

@MissConstrue @bluejay

If that 70% is a real number it's because most of them don't understand the act as written.

@Sfwmson @MissConstrue Hopefully the open-ended debate scheduled for this week will make those details clear.
