I'm really quite resenting generative AI, because it has time to do the reading that I'd rather do myself so that I could learn from it.

As a navigator, I've felt deskilled by satnavs. Similarly when any of my skills, like identifying constellations or trees, are usurped by machinery. Now it feels like my very talent for thinking and analysis has been devalued.

@cedric @timnitGebru @emilymbender Generative AI can't even "read" everything, though. Two examples from my personal reading this week. Qwen "thought" Alistair McAlpine's book "The New #Machiavelli : The Art of Politics in Business" didn't exist, and could not attribute his quote "Bankruptcy is the spur to capitalism". Michael #Padlipsky's "The Elements of #Networking Style" isn't readable by LLMs because the #InternetArchive make it available only as an LCM #DRM protected #PDF file.
