I've been documenting my family's experience with family court in "progressive" WA state.

It's very clear that family court is in its existing form is a core part of the prison industrial complex.

This latest federal leveraging of family court to further criminalize minorities is NOT at all surprising.

This is family court functioning as normal.

Earlier this week I was served* with a DVPO. For those who don't know, that means I have been accused of domestic violence. I was made instantly homeless, I have not been allowed to see my daughter, retrieve all of my belongings or even take my phone service to a carrier NOT controlled by the person accusing me of DV. I can't go too deep on my ex's claims rn but I look forward to having my day in court on June 10th. There's one problem, I can't afford a lawyer. #parenting #WA #seattle

Again, in "progressive" Seattle, I was accused of DV in retaliation for breaking up with a partner.

The DV alleged was financial control & "telling our daughter no sometimes".

I was accused in 3x different DV cases from the same partner and still have ongoing litigation.

The DV charges were dismissed 3x separate times.

Yet I was made homeless, lost $25k+ in legal fees, and missed 6mo with my 18mo child (missed 1st bday, turkey day & xmas) due to lies.

I wish the harm ended there but it is ongoing.

At the start of the situation I was also illegally evicted by SeattleDSA members who said they'd formed a committee to do things like evict people as a form of "restorative justice" - I know this sounds nuts... but again its all in the court record.

Again... all over the fact I broke up with a partner who decided to be vindictive and lie about DV.

So now what this Trump admin interest all signals that ICE could be called at any point of the legal process.

A vindictive person or even a person telling the truth could short circuit the already flaky family court system.

Just make an accusation, file it in court, don't wait for final hearings just forward it to ICE and the feds.

And boom, one bad partner will destroy their shared support systems and THEN get one or both deported.
