There is a pattern, by now tediously familiar, to the British energy crisis.Trouble abroad sends gas prices soaring, and British households pay. Politicians express concern. Economists discuss volatility and global markets. We are told this is unavoidable.

It is not. The crisis is not only geopolitical.

It’s the result of a market design that functions exactly as intended . And that design is a political choice, not an inevitability.

Why Ed Miliband Is Right About Britain’s Energy Future

The absurd logic of Britain’s electricity market means cheap renewable power still produces expensive electricity

The Climate Historian
@Climatehistories So true. It's a men-made crisis. Men. And not just in the UK. Most nations in EU and outside could be energy-independent by now. If politicians had acted against the shackles of fossil fuel enterprises sooner.
But this crisis is a chance.
Let's do it now. Get independent. Become Solar Punks all around. World-wide!
#Renewables are #sustainable and bring us freedom.
@Climatehistories couldn't agree more. The UK energy market is a game of numberwang designed to extract wealth from ordinary people. Renationalise the lot and set the price as cost of generation. Thatcher failed.
@Climatehistories Investment in renewable energy is investment in energy and geopolitical independence. Ironically Trump's Iran war may be the a better motivator for energy independence then years of climate change conferences
