@violetblue Nice. And must be nice to get free covid vaccines for everyone over 30. It's only free for the over 75s here in the UK.

Though yeah, free for everyone of any age would be better still.

@statsguy @violetblue

Yeah. I had to pay ยฃ90 for my booster last autumn. I don't know how much it costs the NHS to stick a Covid booster in someone's arm, but it'll be a damned sight less than that.

@CppGuy @violetblue Yes, for sure. I don't think any of us knows how much it costs the NHS. When they published the cost effectiveness calculations that justified why they're not letting us have the vaccines on the NHS, they were very careful to redact pretty much any information that might have gone into the cost effectiveness calculations. I strongly suspect the cost to the NHS of the vaccinations was amont the many figures they redacted.

@CppGuy @violetblue Oh hang on, they got careless and left one of the numbers in there. The marginal deployment cost is ยฃ10 per dose, but I don't think that includes the cost of the vaccine itself, that's just the cost for getting the vaccine into your arm if you've already bought the vaccine.

But they don't tell us the cost of the vaccine, or the average cost of deployment.

But still, guessing the total cost is still a lot less than ยฃ90.

@violetblue I liked it! My only nit is that the vaccines don't prevent it at all. You're just as likely to get it even if you're vaccinated. However, the vaccines make you far less likely to die from it, far less likely to be hospitalized, and far less likely to get long COVID. So, pretty worthwhile!

I envy folks with easy access to the vaccines. In the US it's getting harder to get vaccines.

@violetblue
Nope. Not really, I've seen better, and leading with the vax is just foolish.

It doesn't prevent infection nearly at all anymore and only slightly in the past.

Ventilation is great, but a well-fitting respirator is the only thing that can prevent it in a risky situation.

Best thing to do is to avoid being in a risky situation at all, e.g. bars, etc.
