New #cybersecurity: The Spotify scrape-and-dump still remains to be seen, the Scientology hack was big (impacts UK + US + AU), my fave (and funniest) talks at Kawaiicon are online, prevention and remediation guidance when authorities search your phone, my holiday cat pics are getting more extreme, and more:

UPDATE: the new Digital Revolutionary mini 'zine is now free for 12 hours (until 1:30am PST). Please spread the word, you never know who might need it. A toolkit for vicarious trauma (like witnessing violent news or social media posts), mitigating life under surveillance, overwhelm fatigue, more.

Please enjoy today's newsletter with a spicy recap of InternetNZ's 30th event and why other .TLDs in democracies need to pay attention. Also, Portugal exempts good faith hackers from cybercrime laws, we're in the era of identity rental cyberespionage, and cats.

We shall crowdsource this for #FOSDEM . And integrate into the conference schedule apps.

@violetblue I'm part-way through reading this week's instalment of The Ghost Hunter's Guide and had to take a break before S to let you know how much I'm enjoying this! (Added bonus, recognising and learning more about the city I live in!) It's working really well in the serial format too. Many thanks for sharing it.

This is *amazing*.

At a New Zealand cybersecurity conference, attendees had a dashboard on air quality in the venue and could choose their risk level, room by room. Fascinating piece by @violetblue in @Wired: https://www.wired.com/story/this-hacker-conference-installed-a-literal-anti-virus-monitoring-system/

Just moved into my new desk at Stout (Vic Uni) and I've never been happier! It's literally in the library!
