@nando161 @patrick_townsend every company will follow orders from courts to the extent they can. This is what Proton did and signal will as well. If you believe that the executives will accept go to prison for you, you're folling yourself.
@DiogoConstantino @nando161 @patrick_townsend All they got from Proton was credit card details which others would provide too.
@ikklegemzuniverseplus @DiogoConstantino @nando161 Yes. And there are ways to avoid providing a credit card for payment.
@DiogoConstantino @nando161 Yes, of course this is true. I think it is important to understand the architecture of Signal and Proton. There is very little information they can give to law enforcement due to how they implement end-to-end encryption and their policies about not retaining log information.

@patrick_townsend @nando161 it's not just a question of technical architecture signal does have some metadata as well, but on this case the relevant difference is the payment details, signal does doesn't have it because it's free for most.

Also IM is not an alliterative to email, and vice-versa. Those are services meant to be use in different ways.

@DiogoConstantino @nando161 Yes, sorry for the confusion. I am spending a lot of time on both Signal and Proton privacy and mixed the two together. Email protocols (SMTP, IMAP) certainly have more exposure from a privacy point of view. Especially when exchanging Proton to non-Proton accounts. I am aware that Proton will respond to Swiss law enforcement demands and of the mutual agreements that Swiss LE have with other countries. I would be interested in what metadata has been shared and the circumstances surrounding that.
