People need to read books. Entire books.

Our society is distracted, unfocused, and in a hurry.

A culture that crams and rushes through content perpetuates the anxiety of our time.

Reading a book (slowly and leisurely) is a countercultural act.

@Gustodon @yayaver I have 130 books, and I like reading them, well, listening to them. I can read braille but I like audio books.
@NicksWorld That's awesome. Audio books are great, especially on road trips.
@Gustodon Yep, they sure are great. It's nice getting free books whenever I want.
@yayaver thanks for the reminder. i have to start to read a book again. (have a few unread) and please use and support your local libraries ❤️
@yayaver
maybe start with
How to Do Nothing, Resisting the Attention Economy. By Jenny Odell.
(I’m reading this again at the moment)
@Veronicavd hm
I have to check into that.

@yayaver
Reading books is something some people enjoy. Like any other activity.

I don't collect butterflies. That doesn't tell you much about me.

If I read books or not, also doesn't tell you much about me.

@notyourfanboy that is a beautiful thoughts ... Anything slow and soothing activity is a beautiful thing!

Reading book is just an option ..

@yayaver

I teach about 84 students per semester, and I would estimate that less than 5% read books on their own, and probably less than half when I assign them.

@DrOinFL yes, it's tragic. This is happening everywhere in the world.... Reading is considered as elite hobby rather than a necessary tool to be aware of th surroundings.

@yayaver

What's more troubling is that the lack of desire to read books reflects a larger lack of natural curiosity about the world, the solar system, and the universe.
I can't imagine being young without that desire to learn.
🤷‍♂️

@DrOinFL when you are young , you want to know, dream to travel and do everything.... Lack of desire in age of the information overload can be understood but curation of knowledge is required for young and new ones...
@yayaver
It's unfortunate that what you say is true. It shouldn't be.
@yayaver They didn't read books before.
@erik yes, but they were not living in this fast paced world too
