A culture that crams and rushes through content perpetuates the anxiety of our time.
Reading a book (slowly and leisurely) is a countercultural act.
OhSnap!DragonI teach about 84 students per semester, and I would estimate that less than 5% read books on their own, and probably less than half when I assign them.
@DrOinFL yes, it's tragic. This is happening everywhere in the world.... Reading is considered as elite hobby rather than a necessary tool to be aware of th surroundings.
What's more troubling is that the lack of desire to read books reflects a larger lack of natural curiosity about the world, the solar system, and the universe.
I can't imagine being young without that desire to learn.
