People need to read books. Entire books.
Our society is distracted, unfocused, and in a hurry.
A culture that crams and rushes through content perpetuates the anxiety of our time.

I teach about 84 students per semester, and I would estimate that less than 5% read books on their own, and probably less than half when I assign them.
What's more troubling is that the lack of desire to read books reflects a larger lack of natural curiosity about the world, the solar system, and the universe.
I can't imagine being young without that desire to learn.
