People need to read books. Entire books.

Our society is distracted, unfocused, and in a hurry.

A culture that crams and rushes through content perpetuates the anxiety of our time.

Reading a book (slowly and leisurely) is a countercultural act.

I teach about 84 students per semester, and I would estimate that less than 5% read books on their own, and probably less than half when I assign them.

@DrOinFL yes, it's tragic. This is happening everywhere in the world.... Reading is considered as elite hobby rather than a necessary tool to be aware of th surroundings.

What's more troubling is that the lack of desire to read books reflects a larger lack of natural curiosity about the world, the solar system, and the universe.
I can't imagine being young without that desire to learn.

@DrOinFL when you are young , you want to know, dream to travel and do everything.... Lack of desire in age of the information overload can be understood but curation of knowledge is required for young and new ones...
