A lot of the devices we use in the kitchen (Thermomix, microwaves, dishwashers, coffeemakers etc) use complete operating systems and embedded computers nowadays, often with internet connectivity for who knows what. So. Will we soon see mandated fingerprint readers for age verification or will a simple switch with "18+" be sufficient to continue to cook and clean? ;)

#SarcasmButOnlyHalf #AgeVerification

@jwildeboer "No, I can't help with the chores, I'm only 14".
@jwildeboer
No more asking the kids to help out with chores.
@jwildeboer
My gas stove and oven are completely chipless. Any nearby children are safe to mess with that stuff.
@ozzelot @jwildeboer I take it you never cook long cut up pieces of potato?

@jwdt
I do not.

(But now I'm interested. What does that have to do with anything?)
@jwildeboer

@ozzelot @jwildeboer chips (fries in USA). Sounds like it truly is chipless then. :)
@jwdt We non-US people only have freedom fries, or as we say in our best French: pommes frites :) @ozzelot
@jwildeboer
We have hranolky ("small prisms")
@jwdt

@jwdt
Hah, I didn't even think about that. Good one. My English mostly comes from the US variant.

(I was like "what makes potatoes inherently less safe than other meals?"
And I often think of "cook" as boiling, frying is a different activity in my head. Possibly a philosophical Czechism.)
@jwildeboer

@jwdt
I might synthesize this into boiling long potato prisms and naming them French cooks. That will surely catch on.
@jwildeboer
@jwildeboer Playing #Doom on Thermomix in 3.. 2..
@jwildeboer hahahaha as if any of those policymakers have any understanding of IT vs OT. 😭

@jwildeboer Rather than base it on age, which is a completely arbitrary distinction, they should check a user's maturity instead. "How?" you might ask. Probably "AI."

While we're at it, we should probably require an extensive maturity, intelligence, morality, and emotional stability check for elected officials, particularly those with access to nuclear weapons.

@jwildeboer Yeah, great. Next thing you know our microwaves will have to take pictures and submit them online through -Error: hax0r network intercept; all your data are belong to us- for verification...

I keep thinking they'll come to their senses and realize this just isn't a thing that can ever work, but even if they do, who knows how much insanity they'll force on us first before they do. And that's a big if these days...

@jwildeboer Please do not give them ideas.
@jwildeboer The Easy-Bake Oven company about to go bankrupt.
@jwildeboer only if it reports your location and politically leanings.
@jwildeboer thank god we have manual gas stove here in India. 😝 So no age verification 💩

@jwildeboer Then you know your fridge and your oven are going to get all judgy on you: "You've already had three slices of pizza. Come on, that's enough." Or "I can only cook Blamco brand."

My rule is that nothing that requires an app or an internet connection is allowed in the kitchen. Low tech is good: my coffemaker is a plastic Melitta pour-over cone. My waffle iron is a c. 1960 Sunbeam CG-1 (the GOAT of waffle irons).

@jwildeboer needing to be 18+ to cook and clean is going to be very popular with teenagers...
