Bis in die 1960er-Jahre ein Apartheitsstaat, bis heute ein Riesenrassismus-, Sexismus- und Rechtsstaatlichkeitsproblem, Wahlkreise, die so zugeschnitten werden, wie´s passt, die Todesstrafe, ein privatisiertes Gesundheitssystem, ein privatisiertes Bildungssystem, Gefängniskonzerne und Richter:innen, die auf Lebenszeit berufen werden. Und das alles schon lange vor Trump und MAGA und ICE, die nun gar keine Hemmungen mehr kennen.
Fietsbel@kanuka @rpolenz Eine alte Demokratie zu sein hat eben auch Nachteile, nämlich ein altes Staatsrecht und -system, das als solches wenig bis nie reformiert wurde u. schwer reformierbar ist. Die #Bürgerrechtsbewegung und die Anti-Vietnamkrieg-Aktivist:innen hatten schon etwas bewegt. Nothing is perfect. Die sozialen Unterschiede waren immer zu groß, aber früher weniger als heute. MAGA u.ICE sind schon ein absoluter neuer Tiefpunkt in der US-Nachkriegsgeschichte, #Neofaschismus in Aktion.#nofascism

Cause there were already democracies of the same type¹ when the US was founded. The difference was basically that the US didn't like the Lords and Ladies, so their class of (alternative) nobility was/is more informal (for lack of better word).

@Mabande @kanuka @rpolenz Yes, yet with all its imperfections, the US democracy was something refreshingly new at the time of its foundation, with European regional states still being ruled by monarchs and nobility.With delays of centuries, more groups of the US population achieved (at least limited) access to political participation, workers, women, people of colour, etc. This ongoing emancipation was stopped and is even in the process of being reversed now by the MAGA neofascists.
