@gleick there have now been two incidents of organizations *in Germany* - one socialist legal aid, one antifascist/holocaust education charity - having their bank accounts unilaterally shut down.

since the Trump admin have declared "Antifa Ost" in Germany as a "foreign terrorist organization", *German* banks are afraid they might get sanctioned in the US if they serve any org that could be construed as being part of that "group"

I get its intended meaning and value, but it is a casualty of war. It has been misappropriated by the regime. People who don't know what "antifa" is will believe it is a terrorist organization and won't care to learn otherwise.

However, the whole phrase "anti-fascist" cannot be misunderstood. Even misguided people who are all for the “antifa crackdown" will not support an "anti-fascist crackdown” or believe there is an "anti-fascist terrorist organization.”

Expand the term. Use "anti-fasicst" everywhere. Stop using "antifa” (at least until it can be reappropriated).

@LanceJZ Only if we switch to a vaguer word. It shouldn't be necessary to explain that antifa means anti-fascist, but they don't gain any ground if we make them say “anti-fascist” instead.
