What these worms do will TRANSFORM your garden: In-Bed Vermicomposting

@Broadfork I've never tried this. The last two winters my hot bin got cold while I was away. It was full of worms so I moved the contents into an old worm bin. The worms finished the job and I have lovely end product. On the allotment I chop and drop and cover with a layer of leaves and top with cardboard. The results have been fantastic. I think whatever method it's making sure the worms have something to eat. Not possible under a layer of plastic that some use to cover beds over winter.

@Hesperalis Fabulous. If we provide the worms with enough to eat and a bit of safety they’ll happily work their wonders for us.

I didn’t know about the worm cocoons’ longevity so it was reassuring to know they can survive a bad spell of extreme conditions.

I left the wormbox at the old plot but I have a freecycled large wooden crate to adapt for the job.

I’ll use it for all our veg peelings over the year instead of using a compost dalek, which some rodents have been sharing over winter.
