New 3D Worms Game Leaked
UPDATE: The leaker has uploaded gameplay as they promised to do earlier. I can’t link to it here for legal reasons. The footage shows an XCOM-style grid-based movement system. Weapons like the bazooka are aimed by choosing which square to shoot at, and then the classic Worms gauge pops up, where you have to hit the button at the right time.
The terrain is also destructible, so you can drop enemy worms into the ocean.
There were also coins to pick up to spend on upgrades between rounds, such as bazooka mod that makes friendlies immune to damage when caught in the blast.
ORIGINAL STORY: The videogame industry is leaky it might as well be a submarine. This time, it’s a brand new Worms game getting leaked, and it got leaked by catching strays during a different leak.
This is going to need some context: basically, someone was busy leaking a supposed image of Assassin’s Creed: Invictus, which caused Ubisoft to come out and admit that while the image did originate from one of their private tests, it was also heavily modified.

But that’s beside the point. In the comments, an account called Evil Leeker man said, “Not AC, but I wanna in with the leaks so go nuts (new worms)”
The image he posted shows a 3D Worms game, with a bright battlefield surrounded by an audience of excited worms awaiting destruction. It certainly looks believable, although in this day and age that isn’t saying much. He also posted a screenshot from his Steam library showing it going under the name Project Arrakis. You might recognise that as the name of the giant worms from the Dune series.
Apparently, he last played it on August 6. The implication is that he was part of a private playtest of the game.

Evil Leeker man then posted more details and images, as seen above. There’s a mode involving playing 4 stages, with the option to spend gold on upgrades between stages. Plus there are more images of the game in action, etc. He’s also promising to upload gameplay later.
So, what’s the credibility of this mysterious leaker? Well, he joined X in October of last year, where he began by uploading stuff from Dispatch Episode 8 prior to its release in November. He’s also uploaded a few things from other smaller titles. In other words, he does appear to be involved in playtesting games, lending some credence to the claims.
Then there’s the fact that the screenshots do look legit. Again, in this day and age that doesn’t guarantee anything, but if they are fakes, they’re bloody good ones.
