It's #PiDay!
@mina
Oh heck, thanks for remembering!
Decent joke, by the way!
@mina Me, not understanding the joke, “but… why is 9 up-side-down?”
@mina only under the bizarre illogical US dating “system” which nobody else uses
@peterbrown I always thought that Pi is a global guy. 😎 @mina

@NatureMC

Guy or girl?

@peterbrown

@mina Girl-Boy-Everything-Guy, changes with every digit in the colours of a beautiful rose-blue-all-colours rainbow.

@peterbrown

@NatureMC

Oh!

That's lovely!

@peterbrown

@mina Yes, Pi is lovely! And this polite, *VERY* patient Sharon, too! 🤭

@peterbrown

@peterbrown @mina Everything but yyyy/mm/dd is bizarre, so Pi Day is actually okay with me.
ISO - ISO 8601 — Date and time format

ISO 8601 is the internationally accepted way to represent dates and times.

ISO

@wonka @cobbpg @mina and writing I’m sure it works but I can’t think of saying it verbally.

“on the 15th of May 1967”
“in 1967 on May the 15th”

The first version is my default when speaking.

@peterbrown @wonka @mina In Hungarian it’s the only way you can say it: month first, then day. That’s simply how that language works. I just think it’s better because you don’t have to deviate from the natural way to make dates sortable. The same applies to names: they are family name first.
@peterbrown @mina I hate MM/DD/YY but I can disregard that for the purposes of creating a day for pi.
@mina I love transcendental numbers for some reason. 💜
@mina Poor 6… trusted π and instantly regretted it😂

@Itsshivansh

Never trust transcendental beings!

@mina True! They go on forever and never repeat themselves.

@mina

Not in my house! We use proper British dates None of your Yankee nonsense with us.

@DziadekMick

Unfortunately, we don't have (at least) 14 months.

@mina

For it to be accurate, you’d need an infinite amount of months. Which would make the third day of an infinitely short month an interesting concept.

I’m going to stop now before I start thinking about an infinite number of infinities.

@DziadekMick

Actually I'm already thinking about the topic.

@mina

I’m a big fan of the Infinite Hotel mind games. About my limit now.

@DziadekMick

Hilbert has always a room for you.

@mina @DziadekMick I suppose we could use January 3rd, but that would bring it down to only to digits. The ultimate pi day would be 3/1/4159, but I don’t expect to live long enough to get there.
@DziadekMick I'm copy-paste your "Yankee nonsense" 4 my own reply🤭😉
@mina
@mina Does 6 appear like really late or "never" ?

@ZoidbergForPresident

6 is actually the 8th digit.

@mina Then I'm not sure I get the joke... :p

@ZoidbergForPresident

π is an irrational number. The digits go on forever and ever.

The poor 6 will never be able to cross the street.

@mina Ok but then... Why a 6?

@ZoidbergForPresident

I don't think, there's a deeper meaning to the choice of that number.

@mina Hence why I was lost... :p

@mina Denglisch 🇩🇪🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 reply;

ach the Yankee nonsens, mit ihrem verdrehten Datumsformat
😀

@alm10965

Ein-und-zwanzig
vs
Twenty-one

@alm10965

@mina 🤣🤣🤣

@martin

Dafür bist du hier im Fedi.

Wir verstehen dich.

@mina Übrigens, ist e schon durch? @martin
@Hiker @mina @martin 👍😂

@Hiker

e kommt erst am 2. Juli.

@martin

@mina
Sowas von unlogisch 🤔 @martin

@Hiker

"Offiziell" am 7. Februar, aber wenn man das US-Datumsformat vermeiden kann, sollte man es tun.

@martin

@mina Genial! 🥳

@mina

What an irrational cartoon.

@Fasgadh

Transcendental!

😁

@Fasgadh @mina

I was going to phrase it "Sharon soon realized that she had made an irrational choice.", but yeah 😂

@mina

@mina Or American Pi day as I prefer to think of it. 22nd July should really be Pi day, but it has been named Pi approximation day. Which is ironic as 3.14 is a worse approximation for Pi than 22/7.

@kbm0

Indeed!

However: I couldn't let the opportunity pass to post this cute cartoon.

@mina 0 would be better for that picture.
