One thing that is always annoying is how the unix datum, 1970-01-01 00:00:00 GMT was in fact 1970-01-01 01:00:00 BST in the UK the very country that invented GMT.

As Rachel Reeves (finally) swings behind an explicit statement that Brexit has cost the UK around 8% of GDP, we might ask what that looks like:

It equals around Β£224bn a year (in 2025), which given the UK's tax burden of around 35% is Β£78bn in lost tax revenue a year.

So if you wondering why the public sector is under-funded, while a continuing austerity logic is always in play, this lost tax income for the state is also contributing to budget shortfalls.

@smiletolerantly his favourite part of Excession was when Dave Excession shouted "Excession!" and jumped in his spaceship

Chris O'shea owner of Centrica and British Gas is scandalously talking about gas prices on #bbclaurak, when asked if they will rise he says "we will have to wait and see" and "we don't want to panic people"

These Capitalist fuckers......

Centrica reported an adjusted operating profit of Β£0.8 billion for 2025 and Β£1.6 billion in 2024

When you’re looking at source code it can be helpful to have some evidence indicating who wrote it. Author tags give a surface level indication, but it turns out you can just lie and if someone isn’t paying attention when merging stuff there’s certainly a risk that a commit could be merged with an author field that doesn’t represent reality. Account compromise can make this even worse - a PR being opened by a compromised user is going to be hard to distinguish from the authentic user.

We received this odd communication today in the format of a local free newspaper.
It is published by Hope Not Hate, and contains a collection of perkily upbeat pieces of local community news.
I assume that the optimistic and inclusive tone is pitched to counter the Reform Ltd narrative of "broken Britain".
Although I find the relentless perkiness mildly amusing, I heartily approve of the general intent.
