@plut0nian mine has haunted me as long as i can remember. it was there in my earliest dreams. sometimes years pass without it, but it always shows up again eventually

it has no appearance, no form, but i always recognize it’s presence immediately. i find myself in total darkness, total emptiness. i cannot move, i cannot scream, and i am filled with terror beyond anything i’ve ever felt. just me, and that horrible, horrible presence—i am back in the dream again, like i never even left.

@plut0nian i think of it by different names. The Dark. The Nothing. Fear Itself. its nature makes it difficult to describe, but i am certain it is a being, not just a feeling.

after all, i have heard it laugh. it’s not a sound that could exist in the real world, it’s not in a register my waking ears could perceive.

@plut0nian once, while very sleep deprived, i thought i could just wait it out. it’s not real, i told myself. i need the sleep. i tried to remain asleep as long as i could. until it spoke to me:

“now, i have you” it said, and i knew i had made a mistake

that is the only time i heard it speak in words.

@plut0nian to be clear, i also have a lot less intense sleep paralysis/nightmare demons demons. lots of recurring characters, lots of weird ones. maybe i’ll see if i can find some random dreams i’ve written down, there’s a lot. the empty woman, the faceless ones, the demon with many faces, the ghosts in chains, the one i cannot speak of at all….. but yeah, nothing else out there like The Dark. that’s the main one

Mine is always behind me, out of sight, but it is an overwhelming presence that freezes me in place. I struggle to move, to turn and fight or even to run, but I am consumed by terror. My wife always knows when it's happening because I am breathing hard with the effort. My cat would even become concerned and move to check on me and comfort me when it happened, before he passed away. Luckily I don't have those nightmares often.

and once as my grandparents, naked, side by side next to my bed, with black blood running from their eyes and mouths

she also had a cat i would catch glimpses of when she was coming soon

this was back when i was falling asleep without realizing it from working too much
