I haven't read it.

Tim Cook doesn't deserve my attention.

@marcoarment he's also not qualified to speak on that subject
@marcoarment Tim is so powerful — he wiped out my four decade love for Apple in an instant.
@marcoarment @jonkit Someone put it through one of those AI text detectors (take this with a grain of salt) and it came back 100% AI so, yeah, probably not worth reading.
@EshuMarneedi @marcoarment @jonkit The AI likely didn’t know who Jobs was and Woz is, so didn’t mention them.

@marcoarment Cook doesn't DESERVE your attention, for sure.

But you do host a really popular podcast about Apple stuff. It's kinda your job to at least begrudgingly read a 50th anniversary press release so you can coherently talk about it, right?

@jimmylittle @marcoarment Hey maybe don’t go around telling strangers what their jobs “kinda” are?

@dwineman Fair point. I just think it’s very strange to build one’s entire career and public persona around a company, then say that the guy running the company isn't worth their time.

Even if one pays attention for the purpose of criticism (which is very valid, necessary, and frankly entertaining), one should probably still pay attention.

@jimmylittle @dwineman I think it’s their role to decide for themselves what their job is and for us to maybe criticise them for it.

@ahltorp @dwineman This is a great way to put it, and gentle criticism was my intent, not “telling him how to do his job”.

If podcasters can criticize CEOs when they disagree about how they do their CEO job, then listeners can criticize podcasters when we disagree about how they do their podcaster job.

@dwineman @jimmylittle @marcoarment we all know Marco’s existing job of complaining 24/7 keeps him busy enough
@ammarmalik @dwineman @marcoarment Joking aside, Marco's complaints are generally well-grounded and very clearly explained. That's why I was disappointed to see that he thinks this isn't worth the 45 seconds to read this press release. Hearing his thoughts on things like this is one of the reasons I've been following him since the Build and Analyze days.

@jimmylittle @ammarmalik @dwineman Tim Cook's words are nearly meaningless, and always have been.

I don't think I've ever gotten much value out of anything he has said publicly.

He's too guarded to say anything worthy of anyone's attention, and his actions are too cold and greedy to stand behind any marketing message he espouses.

@marcoarment @jimmylittle @dwineman which other 3 trillion corporation has stood up to its government and lived to tell the day? You’re trying to hold Tim Cook up to a standard that simply does not exist.

@ammarmalik @marcoarment @dwineman The way I see it is – There's a difference between doing what you have to do for your company (how Tim Cook acted in Trump 1.0), and actively placating a dementia-riddled madman (how Tim Cook is acting in Trump 2.0).

Play nice to avoid crippling tariffs? Sure. Go for it.

Give Trump golden trophies and go to private screenings of the movie about his trophy wife? Nope. That's beyond playing the game, that's just hanging out with a wannabe dictator for fun.

@marcoarment @jonkit I thought it was a great letter.

But I doubt Tim wrote it. Maybe Phil? Or the Marketing VP?

I see it as a letter from the company itself, not Tim. And it was actually a great letter overall.

@marcoarment @jonkit so true. Paying attention to a company’s 50th year of existence, let alone celebrating that, is just not the vibe of today let’s say.

@marcoarment

can’t wait to hear your thoughts on Tim Cook’s letter on being a rebel

Tim cook is not a rebel, he is a trumpist asscreeper

@marcoarment Tim is a great guy who just happened to be Apple’s CEO during a very challenging time. He’s just trying to balance his beliefs with keeping Apple afloat. He may have made a few mistakes along the way, but he’s probably not enjoying the situation either.
@marcoarment @jonkit Pay attention to what he does, not what he says.
Really just need the last bit of it to get the gist
