Reminds me of one of my bosses whom had few informal meetings with me about my lack of “motivation”.

He just didn't tell me that by “motivation” he meant “results”, and fired me.

@Daojoan I have a strong suspicion the enduring obsession with 'passion' is that it's unquantifiable, meaning you can in theory be accused of lacking it with next to no supporting evidence, then fired. You could even counsel the employee over it, providing a paper trail. Even better, if they treat you like garbage and you're sad about that, you're unmotivated - it's a you problem.
