Researching my next #Linux laptop and considering an M1 Macbook Air (16GB) for its great screen and built quality. How solid is #asahilinux running on that machine? Besides retina displays, I care a lot about smooth trackpad scrolling and solid support for multi-touch gestures. How are those working out in @AsahiLinux today? Opinions much appreciated!

@nw

I would suggest checking the wifi device for driver compatibility, too.

Good luck!

@nw the following video might be helpful to get a first impression on running Asahi https://tinkerbetter.tube/w/cRpY1NgJHqMgyPgZA7dJEL

@AsahiLinux @nw Second that! I guess most of the feedback would also be valid for an M1 Pro ?

@nw @AsahiLinux Asahi / Fedora / Gnome working great on my 13" MBP M1, which is mostly the same machine - Wifi, Bluetooth, trackpad (including multi-touch), TouchBar, sound etc all good. The only gap is DisplayPort over USB-C, but I believe that's not too far away.

Touch ID doesn't work - I believe Apple has locked it down in a way which means it probably never will.

Performance is excellent and reliability rock solid.
