When I was younger, I very much opposed and spoke out against police "intelligence gathering", infiltration of political action groups, etc.

But the sad truth is that, as this woman says, the message from hate groups in Canada to Jews is clear "We can get you any time if we want.", and they're right.

They can get us walking into synagogue, they can get us with our children in the park, they can get us walking our dog. There's no amount of private security or police presence that can keep Jewish lives safe in the West, and the hate-mongers know it. They know we're vulnerable, and they exploit it.

The real question for me is "What will politicians and the media do about it?"

Will they put efforts into counter-intelligence? Will they enforce anti-hate speech rules? Will they work to address the prevailing antisemitism in Canada?

Or will they mirror American politicians on the issue of gun control with "hopes and prayers"?

@serge

Fuck hopes and prayers.

I send out into the universe what I want from the universe - kindness.

I believe you deserve kindness and safety. It deeply saddens me that there is so much antisemitism.

I’m sending you kindness and hope for a better future.

@StacieBee

Thank you.

I was unhappy at the first vandalism, the first shooting of a synagogue, the fire bombing of a rabbi's house here in Vancouver, the way a Jewish man was beat up in the park in front of his young daughter in Montreal.

But at this point, I'm not fine. I'm not even worried, I'm just disgusted.

Eight years waiting for PR. Eight years, all while we pay taxes and live here tenuously, with limited rights, a SIN that expires, and long stretches where we don't have a credit card, don't have medical coverage and can't leave the country because we don't have the right to return.

And now shootings of synagogues.

I'm very disillusioned about Canada, and I'm tired of hopes and prayers.

@serge

That’s a lot. My heart hurts for the world. Too much hate and violence. I’m so sorry that any of it happened. That’s too much. We need to do better.
