I have no clue how ya'll actually FULLY clean your fountain pens, like, fully residue-free.

By now I've accepted I'll just need a seperate converter for each ink, as I don't have the feeling any non-metal part ever gets fully clean with just water.

Ah well, time to let it all rest in water over night for the occasional ink refresher. πŸ˜…πŸ˜

@BryanGreyson Most of the time water and a bulb syringe is enough unless things are really dried and caked. In which case flushing what you can and then soaking for a while usually helps more than most other things. If you're in a hurry, an ultrasonic cleaner can speed things up. Sometimes for converters I'll tear a narrow bit of paper towel, twist it up and shove it down in and scrape around.

There are pen flushes that do help the tougher ones, and some recipes for homemade flushes.

@jimp @BryanGreyson the Schon Dsgn cleaning tools are also great for a thorough flush, even better than a bulb syringe in my experience

@alexa488 @BryanGreyson I looked into those but I didn't see how they'd be much of an advantage over my bulb syringe, it already fits into most sections and can push water through/draw water back with more than enough force.

Tempting to get one for the Lamy pens and their wonky sections that defy most cleaning tools, though.

@BryanGreyson
Oh. At first I read: fountain penis πŸ’¦πŸ˜… But for this cleaning is also very important 😁

@BryanGreyson I just used this: https://www.rohrer-klingner.de/de/reiniger-2/ to revive a very old Mont Blanc fountain pen. You do need a fitting converter to get the stuff into the pen and to wash the gunk out afterwards.
And of course no guarantee that the ink channels won't be damaged, but usually, that risk is better than a fountain pen that will never write again.

It's also desirable to just have more fountain pens for a variety of inks, of course πŸ˜‰

Reiniger – Rohrer & Klingner

@BryanGreyson
I use "reiniger" by Rohrer & Klingner, it works rather well.
But also warm water and some soap that I immerse the parts into for a while.
But whatever the method - it needs thorough rinsing afterwards! Plus patience!
@BryanGreyson running water from the sink, disassemble and soak, then if it's really persistent an ultrasonic cleaner
@BryanGreyson
If you can't get the residue out with cleaning, it's not going to be enough to change the next ink. Don't own demonstrators and you'll never know.
@BryanGreyson I use a small ultrasonic cleaner to help things along. Seems to help.
