Check out this insane curl by #Canada's #JonThurston against #Norway

If you don't know #curling the goal is to get your stones closer to the center than your opponent. The strategy is to knock your opponent's stones out, avoiding (or knocking closer) your own stones

His precision is stunning

There are no sweepers in #wheelchair curling, no adjustments to the shot after it is made. Instead his teammates hold his wheelchair steady

@benroyce That's threading the needle. Wow. Imagine being able to visualize that interaction from a distance. It's easy to see from above, but on the ice it's nowhere near as clear.

@RegGuy

right? like the final scenario, where he knocks out two yellow stones is hard enough

but he *also* has to deal with that swarm of stones lying beforehand, and as you say, thread the needle. stunning work!

@benroyce And the perfection of tapping the one stone to then tap the other one without TOUCHING any of his stones in the target area. YES!

I used to bowl before arthritis in my thumb stopped me, and making tough splits by tapping a pin across the deck is just the ultimate thrill.

@RegGuy @benroyce bet physics is a gift he only uses for good!
@benroyce absolutely staggering 👏👏👏

@tuneJabber

if you look at the center line drawn on the ice you can see how the stone twirls and curves in an arc (or curls, duh) to thread between the other stones

outstanding

@benroyce Maybe it's because of where I am, but I see no video on that page. 🤷🏻‍♂️

@Eetschrijver

oh yeah there's none in the link

there should be one embedded in my post

@benroyce
Check! Hadn't recognized that for video.

And wow!

@benroyce it’s been so good! I’m watching the mixed doubles right now waiting for the sled hockey to start.

@benroyce

Not impressed.

Not impressed.

Not impressed.

Oh HELL YEAH, take that losers *punches air*

@benroyce What a throw! I hope folks in here know how much harder it is to to get that precision without sweeping!
@nev @benroyce Even WITH sweeping you won’t see one that good for years!

@Catawu @nev

they have a center line drawn on the ice, you can watch it twirl and curve

beautiful

@benroyce @hollie That was a beautiful shot. He could have done take-out weight and lost the shot stone, but was perfect weight to stick around for the extra point
@benroyce I’ve never seen a more perfect!
@benroyce I’ve watched curlers NOT in wheelchairs make way worse shots than that! Outstanding!

@RockyC

i didn't see it the first watch but the shot arcs, you can see it vs the centerline on the ice

whaaat
