Spectacularly corrupt:

Obviously, Ukraine does not want to allow Russian oil flowing through Ukraine to Hungary, while Viktor Orbán is working against Ukraine in the EU.

But being about to lose the Hungarian elections on April 12, a desperate Orbán now seizes two armored bank trucks owned by a Ukrainian bank, travelling from Vienna to Kiev, carrying $40 million, €35 million, and 9 kg gold.

While we are trying to defeat Russia, Orbán is now stealing from Ukraine.

Orbán’s government presents this as if Hungary is stopping Ukrainian money laundering. But there is just one problem: If Ukraine was laundering money in Ukraine, that money would go out of Ukraine to buy assets in the EU. But the seized money and gold was travelling from Austria to Ukraine.

In a war, the economy runs on foreign cash, as people realize that the banking systems are often unavailable. And as Ukraine runs a huge trade deficit, it keeps running out of cash, hence the trucks.

@randahl I do hope the Hungarian elections can be held and that in fact they manage to topple him.

Everybody deserves better.

@svelmoe @randahl

Unfortunately, Slovakia’s Fico has vowed to carry on obstructing anything the EU tries to do for Ukraine, even if—especially if— Orbán loses. Maybe the EU will invoke Article 7 against Slovakia. They’ve been loathe to invoke it against Hungary for fear of meddling in their election.

@djembro @randahl yeah even though there are other problems, having somebody as Orban removed will always be a net-positive for Hungary and subsequently EU. Even if other bad may arise, every toppled dictator-wannabe that can be removed is one less dictator.
@randahl Orban who has accumulated experience at stealing EU money now extends his “skill” to Ukraine’s money.
@randahl Sounds stupid to me, transporting money through hungary. It's like flying over belarussia.
@randahl
Victor Orban is just as big of an asshole as Donald Trump.
@randahl In connection with these events, the Hungarian government has just submitted a draft law, which could further deepen the conflicts. Bill T/13783 uses the seizure as a pretext for retroactive legislation. It creates a loophole to probe past transactions and authorizes secret surveillance of the opposition under 'national security.' This appears to be a 'two birds with one stone' move: addressing a crime while potentially legalizing political monitoring for partisan gain.
@randahl
It makes no sense to drive from Vienna to Kiev via Hungary.
Is there something else going on?
@randahl it's al the corrupt EU MP who are buying assets in Ukraine 🤪
@randahl
Kyiv, not Kiev.
@dcoderlt @randahl I was about to say the same thing. Kyiv, not Kiev. Kiev is based on the transliteration from Russian (Киев), whereas Kyiv is based on the transliteration from Ukrainian (Київ).

@dcoderlt
Kyjiw, Kiew, Kyiv, Kyïv, Kyjiw, Київ - all are legit depending on the language.
We all can use common sense rather than appear nitpicking to distract from the content, can we?

@rysiek 👍🫶 @randahl pls include the image descriptions.
@randahl You think he'd be able to spot money laundering better...

@randahl

Den byrde, som drengene og pigerne, der svarer, bærer, og så taler jeg ikke engang om de alternative tekstforfattere, der tilsyneladende arbejder på freelancebasis... 🤭

@randahl

Orban needs to find out about the prolific drone industry in Ukraine. First-hand.

@randahl Orban is another nasty piece of work, in this case he is acting as a proxy war agent for Putin, and the EU should respond as if Hungary is Russia. Actually, I'd kick Hungary out of the EU, they are a total disruption. Let them see if they like being part of Russia.
@pa27 @randahl There are elections in a month in Hungary, and Orban’s polls are significantly down. We are trying to kick him out, but this is exactly why he is doing such things. He’s doing all sorts of nasty tricks to scare people and make them believe there is huge threat coming from Ukraine attacking us -> people would be afraid to vote for change.
There are reports of possible “fake bombing” event could happen soon, where they plant and find a bomb and say it was from Ukraine.
@Gerego @randahl I hope you succeed in getting rid of him. I still wish the EU would apply more pressure - perhaps the threat of expulsion would help? It's always hard when you have a situation like in the US where a lot of people are fooled by a bad leader.

@randahl

Obviously NATO should kick an outlaw state out. Aren't there minimum standards for a country to remain in NATO?

@Savvyhomestead @randahl
Somehow it's not part of the charter/rules of the EU either. 🤨
The lack of selfcontrolling/-adjusting(!) mechanisms in such Confederations of States and even in democracies themselve are astonishing.
So once you're "on top" or "in" you can do what ever you want. Which means apparently nothing less than an immanent/built in selfdestruction. An institutional timebomb as soon as someone reckless comes into power.
Yay.

@randahl

Things must be getting very bad for Orban, as he is acting like a cat on a hot thin roof…

@randahl Laws just don't mean shit anymore, do they? I mean, for people like Orbán, Trump, and Putin.

Oh, wait, they never really have, have they?

Evil bastards.

@randahl orban's 3D chess:

1. Won in 2022 despite being ~3% down in the polls 'cuz of his fast propaganda response to russia attacking ukraine ~1mo prior: He postured as the "peace candidate" best equipped to deal w/ international crises
2. Now down ~10% in the polls w/ a much more robust opponent, his only effective campaign move was fear-mongering against Ukraine. He claims ukraine will attack hungary soon, so they hijacked the money to provoke a response from ukraine to prop up their story

@randahl And these lawless bandits are now writing a law for this particular case, retroactively.

@randahl

Thats 10 mins of oil transit value.

I hope Ukraine writes it off and we see the global bullies start to see the fog of their "greatness" vanish in the mirror when they trim their mustasches every morning.

@randahl It would be good to see that back of that thug Orban
@randahl
I think Orban needs some long jail time soon
@randahl @User47 "We" (the US) can't say shit about any of this when you consider what we're doing to the rest of the world. I'm embarrassed to be American. #WorstTimeline
@randahl @mlanger @User47 Americans turned the american dream into the amerikan nightmare.
@tofm2 @randahl @User47 I don't think "Americans" did. I think a certain subset of Americans did. I certainly didn't.

@randahl just take this amount from hungarian blocked fund and send it to ukraine.

problem solved xD

@lexinova @randahl I would send all the Hungarian blocked EU funds to Ukraine...

@aho @randahl yeah but i could be reverted if they sue.

where simply taking back by force what they took to ukraine can be done fast by judge order.

@randahl
if it is suspected to be money laundering, why did they release the people transporting it? they should have started criminal proceedings.

@randahl

So ein widerliches Schwein 😡😡😡

Jagt ihn jetzt endlich aus der #EU. Und zwar SCHNELL!!!!!
