In preparation for the upcoming #7drl challenge, there's a thread up on r/roguelikedev for hooking up with partners--go it alone... or not! (also on Discord)

7DRL 2026 started over the weekend, and we have our first progress thread up and ready in r/RoguelikeDev (with many others sharing in the discord #7drl channel): https://old.reddit.com/r/roguelikedev/comments/1rifaft/share_your_7drl_progress_as_of_monday_20260302/

Looks like 539 devs joined this year so far. Fewer than in the past, but there's still time yet.

This year Jacob Marks is working on a pirate 7DRL--buy a ship, sail the seas... make crew members walk the plank? :P

Terrain's looking nice. Updated animated version on discord: https://discord.com/channels/205277826788622337/417212831918718992/1477859712132190470

Untitled progress shot from flim.

Oh there are already *two* pirate 7DRLs taking shape this year! (every year there's a random theme that happens to get shared across multiple entries, maybe this year it's pirates xD)

This one's from trustyape.

Also: Seeing a number of classic participant comments to the effect of "the entire first day all I did was..." :P
Aaaand that's enough of a summary for day one. If I keep looking at this stuff I'd have to make one of my own xD

Wednesday 7DRL sharing thread in progress: https://old.reddit.com/r/roguelikedev/comments/1rk93zn/share_your_7drl_progress_as_of_wednesday_20260304/

From there and other sources of updates we have...

superbot1 working on island generation with ruins and encounters
nsn with another of those "place dungeon tiles to progress"-type games
Amazing progress from Jacob Marks on that pirate roguelike! (and as I started wondering last time, it looks like we have a theme building because a *third* in-progress pirate 7DRL popped up recently, too :P)
gruebite's mapgen is starting to take shape
StevieBee also working on mapgen... (like so many others for this even, I guess :P)
Daid is going the extra mile and making a 7DRL that works on actual GBC hardware!

7dRL Friday thread is up!
https://old.reddit.com/r/roguelikedev/comments/1rlz27r/share_your_7drl_progress_as_of_friday_20260306/

Not nearly as many people using r/RoguelikeDev for in-progress sharing this year, but the Discord channel is always hopping...

Kinda outside the realm of normal RLs, like many of his entries, but Numeron's got an interesting-looking TB non-RTS project coming to completion: Rogue Time Strategy.
Update from one of the more anticipated entries this year, Jacob Marks' pirate RL, here seen in the crew hiring and ship upgrade menu.
@Kyzrati damn that looks sick
@0x0961h Yeah this has been one of the popular ones on Discord, with regular updates. Looks like they took the week off to make a banger :P (and the end result probably is, at least in terms of appearance and feature set, from what I can tell so far)
@Kyzrati ngl, hope they'll continue working on it, it looks like a complete game already wtf xD
@0x0961h A good big pirate roguelike would be well-received. (There are several such 7dRLs this year, at least one of which came about because I mentioned that fact yet again in the run up xD)
