I absolutely hate those ā€œletā€™s go around the circle and introduce ourselvesā€ exercises. Making children do them seems especially cruel.

Donā€™t you think itā€™s good to train children to be able to talk to strangers and introduce themselves? I know itā€™s stressful but I think it is useful.

That happens a lot less than you think. And I try to avoid clubs etc that do that nonsense.

Depends on the job but this happens all the time for me because I often have to sit in meetings with customers (b2b company) and so usually we have to introduce ourselves at the start of the meeting.
