Mostly it's Scotland. The higher latitude leads to dark mornings. Shifting the time improves mornings but means the joys of having days going dark rather early.

UK is not in EU, but UK is still on the Island of Ireland. Ireland the Nation is in the EU.
The 1998 GFA makes the British border in Ireland almost irrelevant. A different time zone for half the year on two parts of the Island of Ireland is a problem.

@catsalad - even as we wait in most of North America to go back to Standard Time tonight, the UK did it last weekend and the Europe will have done it hours before us.
So they are already an hour behind us - except in the US, where its 1925.
