Quick question: I haven’t been much active on Mastodon and similar Fediverse "Twitter like" social media clients for a while. Lately, I’ve noticed many folks commenting or replying to public posts with “Public” visibility instead of “Quiet Public” (previously “Unlisted”).

Has the etiquette changed? Should I be making my comments “Public” now?

@anthony depends on what you want. People have different notions of whats proper.
@erikcats To me commenting with public visibility feels like it spams timelines quite a bit. Regardless of my opinion, the fact remains that I'm seeing many more public comments now, which is why I’m asking. I think it’s fair to question whether the standard "Masto-etiquette" has changed.
@anthony
i don't understand enough about fedi to know the difference, but maybe a default changed?
@librekitty, maybe, I don't use Mastodon default web client, I know that they renamed "Unlisted" to "Quietly Public", I'm not sure if Unlisted was the default, but I remember folks struggling to understand the difference.
@anthony
i'm using fedilab
@librekitty same on android. Awesome client.
@anthony
yeah i don't really like using websites
if i'm gonna use something i need an app
@librekitty, agreed. Although most Fedi clients are nice / mature enough PWAs (unlike the Nostr stuff that we got used to). Even GoToSocial has a pretty ok web UI. No Fedilab, but good enough. Speaking of which, I need to "migrate" this account to my self-hosted instance, but every time that I think about it laziness gets the best out of me, lol.
