Yesterday at #DisneySea I started and read the entirety of #AnimalFarm for the first time. A book I'm very surprised was not a part of my grade school education.

That said, I read it because I was seeing it mentioned constantly over the last few months/years... And, well, I very much see why now...

@geoff_eg I still have not read it. :) I did read 1984 a few years ago though, for the same reason. We read Brave New World instead.
@geoff_eg I'm not surprised I didn't read 1984 and Brave New World at my school. We did read Lord of the Flies, To Kill a Mockingbird, Of Mice and Men, Tom Sawyer and Huckleberry Finn though, so we learned a bit about injustice.

@chrisp @geoff_eg I’ve loved reading for as long as I can remember, and I read 1984 in the actual year 1984 because I thought it would be sort of ironic to do so. I got it from my school library, but it wasn’t part of the curriculum.

Though I loved (and love) reading, of all the books I was *made* to read at school, there was exactly and only one that I appreciated at the time, and it was To Kill a Mockingbird. I’m not sure to what extent my lack of loving the required books was the Education department in Queensland, Australia being just really bad at picking books that resonated with me, and how much it was me automatically disliking them *because* they were mandatory.

@chrisp sounds like we had a similar curriculum then.
