Now that #vim seems to be going down the #AIslop drain... might this finally be the year of #Emacs on the #desktop?

Also containing *proper" #AI since the #80ies!

#GNU #Unix #Eliza #EditorWars

@jack consider #neovim / #nvchad or just back to the basics with #nano & #ne?

  • Or grab' yourself #toybox's #vi implementation for maximum "rawdogging"...

@jack @kkarhan @mwl So simple, there is no possible way that it could be enshitified by AI

@jack @kkarhan @mwl Given the current zeitgeist someone, somewhere, RIGHT NOW, is working to embed Claude or Gemini in the ed(1) command prompt. And they're going to end up giving it a dependencies on Gtk and react.js.

@cstross

While not Gemini or Claude, you could use the Co-Pilot completion wrapper, cpwrap(1) to wrap your ed(1) session.

@jack @[email protected] @mwl

@ed1conf @cstross @jack @mwl Or you could just not do that.

@dabeaz

On the bright side, it's done in proper Unix fashion, designed to be composable with whatever program you wrap, rather than shoehorning it into ed itself.

@cstross
No, of course not.
They are asking Claude to embed itself into ed(1).

Claude itself is a, bad, ed implementation.

@jack @kkarhan @mwl

@cstross @jack @kkarhan @mwl ed(1), but electron-based, because all software is both a web browser and a web server this days...
