"only cowards block people"

no, people who want to protect their peace also block people. nobody owes you access to their posts, just because you want to be an asshole in their replies, tyvm

if you keep getting blocked and you don't like it maybe try not being an asshole🤷🏻‍♀️
we find it interesting that we said "don't be an asshole" and some of you heard "don't disagree/debate with me" lol. what does that say about you we wonder🤔
look if you can't disagree/debate without being an asshole that's a skill issue. not our problem 🤷🏻‍♀️
and listen, I can be an asshole sometimes too. we all can. but you won't find me complaining if you decide to block me for it. that's totally fair😂
also forgot to mention the number one reason I block people on here is fatphobia. do with that information what you will.
@redsad
Odds are I won't even notice I've been blocked. Don't have the memory for it.
@redsad "everyone who disagrees with me calls me an asshole" type shit
@redsad Also, if I block you and you turn it into a drama, and start some high school bullshit over it and involve other people to act as an intermediary, then I feel completely justified and reaffirmed as to why I blocked your ass. 💪😊

@redsad

Words of wisdom.

@redsad I also block people if I don’t want to see *them* in my feeds through boosts, replies or whatever.
@redsad I blocked somebody once but can't recall why. I think I wrote a post about it and everything, it was quite the day.
@Air_Quotes_Comedian lol, I block someone at least once a week, sometimes just because they're annoying 🤣
@redsad Either I'm just super-tolerant, or everybody on my feed is just the absolute best.

@Air_Quotes_Comedian @redsad

that's the rule for me

if someone is blocked and i remember why, they stay blocked

if someone is blocked and i can't remember why, they become unblocked

@benroyce @redsad It was some kind of account for a lumber company if memory serves, doing the hard sell on their lumber prices.

@Air_Quotes_Comedian @redsad

i have a similar history with an account that seemed to be a salesperson for hydrogen energy

@redsad “only people not worth my time get blocked”
@redsad
I block as I damn well please! I'm incapable of being block shamed. My hunger for blocking has only deepened since I joined Mastodon. With more blocking power than ever before, I no longer have to settle for merely blocking an individual asshole. I can block them and the whole damn instance they rode in on, and the cops can't do shit about it! Mwa ha ha ha!
@redsad @benroyce When free speech absolutists butt heads with free association advocates.
@redsad
Only assholes whine and complain about being blocked.
@redsad only bullies call ppl who block them cowards. Blocking/ignoring/kicking ppl out is everybodies right. No one needs to be abused in order to make bullies feel better.

@redsad

Coward tells you they are going to block you for a shit reason ... And you can't respond

Cowards

Block anyone you want ... But really, you don't need to tell them

Hugz & xXx

@MelissaBearTrix yeah, blocking is fine. Replying to someone with some dumb statement and then blocking them so they can't respond isn't.

If I block someone, I let them have the last word in whatever was going on because blocking means I've decided I'm not going to gain anything out of further interaction.

@redsad

@stellarsarah @MelissaBearTrix @redsad
The only time it makes sense to reply before blocking is to give other people reading the thread an argument against whatever bullshit the blocked idiot was trying to push. That's only if it's an important topic, though, like trans people being allowed to pee in public toilets or why genocide is bad, actually.

@StarkRG I think more often than not, it get used to get the last word in on an argument.

@MelissaBearTrix @redsad

@redsad Heck, I block people for using a language I don't understand.
@Sibshops @redsad I even block people for using a language I *do* understand, if it's not the language of the post they're replying to.

@redsad

omg is the fedi debating blocking?

Whoooooooo has feelings about blocking? Who?

@DeliaChristina @redsad It's so weird to me. I block even if I know it's me who's being unreasonable, the same way I do irl. Why should social media be any different? "I just don't gel with you for some reason. Therefore we're not pals. Life is short, bye". 👋🏼🤷🏻‍♂️
@redsad I block like dead people in Chicago vote: early and often.

@redsad I prefer MUTE and totally agree we all get to choose.

Assholes aren't worth it, of course.

@redsad I don't understand why it's on us to justify this. "Why do you feel entitled to have access to me? Why is that you're automatic assumption?"

@redsad Rando: “Only cowards block people”

Me: *blocks rando*

@redsad Only trolls insist that blocking is "bad."
@redsad also: Robin Williams RIP ♥️
@redsad They can vilify your ideas by attacking you or they can villify your ideas in order to vilify you. Being closed to foreign ideas is only justified when you are the target of their comments and not your ideas. Feel free to attack the pessimists until they learn the lesson not to be pessimistic. Only allow a person access to your property when they have earned access to your property through good deeds, not because they think that they have a right to debate you.

@redsad

Those attention-starved dorks like to rejoin with a sarcastic "well then why do you have a fence around your yard, lib?" when people say borders are stupid.

Well, if obnoxious wads don't think people should block them and anyone they want, why do they lock their front door? 😁

@redsad

This thread is revealing for a new guy in the Fedi.
I can see the value of mute if someone is targeting you in direct text but if you make a public post in a public forum and then mute people in the comments section because they don't agree with you, I find that cowardly. It's akin to talking to yourself outloud in public having no respect for the people sitting around you while blaming them for hearing what you are saying to yourself.
I mute porn and spots in my "all" feed.

@Jazone disagreeing and being an asshole are two very different things
@redsad
Absolutely and ultimately it's up to each of us to define that tolerance. I draw the line at personal attacks but I welcome disagreement.
@redsad also people who shit into your timeline and then escape to block. These creatures I love the most.
@redsad I say my motive is sheer laziness. Gotta filter thru about 8 billion souls to find fun ones. Can’t be done. So, even just to find the nearby fun ones, “imma need to stop you right here” <block>.
@redsad people who say "only cowards block people" just say that because their feeling are hurt that they got blocked and now they're questioning what their purpose is. That's existential dread on their part and not your responsibility, because you're not they're therapist.
@domo @redsad
It's also because you take away what they desperately need: attention. Some people learned to only go for negative attention. Or to always be "in the right" (because nobody wants to talk to them and ends the conversation quickly). No matter the reason, it is mostly a huge lack of something on their part.
@t_robinart @redsad yeah, you're right. I really feel like they're just lashing out because they feel their social circles shrinking, but they're too stubborn and emotionally inept to look inward and realize what that is. That's not on us doing the blocking though.
@redsad "only cowards block people" only cowards lock their front doors

@redsad
Until they pay my internet fees, I'll block whomever I choose.

And anyone else who gets themselves involved.

I've been giving folks the find out to their fuck around longer than some of them have been alive.
Before the computer, I'd just walk away from drama addicts and let them rant into thin air. Now it's the block button. Same result. 😉 😎

@redsad Some people don't have time to deal with petty drama and harassment.
@sparklepanic @redsad I swear to god that if tech tools did not exist for this purpose, we would not be in half the fights online because we know we couldn't take back anything we said.
@redsad Nothing wrong with blocking people for any reason. I block trolls, Nazis, bigots, of course, but I've also felt the need to occasionally block someone with whom I largely agree but who is so adamant that I should come around, 100%, to their worldview that a reasonable conversation is no longer possible. People have the right to choose who they will engage with and block those who don't understand concepts such as "no means no" or "enough is enough".
@redsad
Or you can block because your debate level is too weak
@Badmax also valid. no one owes you a debate 🤷🏻‍♀️
@redsad
No one owes anything to anybody. Ok.
But when you publish points of views on controversial subjects, sometimes, people ask for deeper explanations. I'm one of these.
If you feel weak, you can just not amswer but you do.
Anytime, you can break the flow. But you persist.
And in the end you block with no warning.
Excuse me but when i first came to social media, it was to deepen my political analyse. Confront points of views.
@redsad
So many people so convinced in the informations they spread. I thought this was a good place.
Sometimes i agree, sometimes not.
Sometimes, i ask for explanations and expose my point of view to see what's behind.
I have to admit i'm not easy to change my mind but well, i don't force anybody to answer so... I digg...
I don't insult anybody... It's a real will to understand.
@redsad
So... When i'm blocked in this situation (which happened some times), i feel very disappointed.
Criticism is easy and seeing people having no other answer behind the facade than block is so 😒
Again, one possible response is no reply. No need to block.
@redsad
Well, i say "you", i should have said "one".
Of course it's not you as obviously, i haven't been blocked (yet) 😁

@redsad
People who complain about getting blocked also ask women to take their earbuds out at the gym.

People who talk about how tough they are because they don't block people also brag about how much they work and how little they sleep every week.
