When Apple announced the “revision” to its Studio Display last week, I—among others—did a bit of a Spock eyebrow raise. That new tag was doing a lot of heavy lifting: aside from a revam…
@Drwave@dmoren Our eyes apparently got tinier, so we ditched a TV cabinet and got a big ol’ 4K LG from Costco for what felt like a laughably low price. I have zero regrets.
@dmoren@Drwave I was worried about the LG. However, I managed to misconfigure it so it can't hit the internet, and I’m shocked at how non-smart it is in a good way. We use it as a dumb display, and it works great. I had a Visio before this and was deeply unhappy with how invasive it could be, data-scavenging aside!
@glennf@dmoren@Drwave As someone who's still using a 14 year old 720p TV, do these fancy smart TVs still work if you don't give them your wifi password?
@waltman@dmoren@Drwave I’m not sure. I thought I *had* to configure it to be online, then I guess I misconfigured it, and, unlike the Vizio, it only balks when I go to its configuration interface and try to do something that requires the internet. Which I can generally do without.
