If BBC’s reporting is correct, what we are seeing in Iran right now is the same playbook Israel used in Gaza. They aren’t sticking to military targets. They are targeting society, and the country’s culture and heritage. To what extent US targeting is following their lead is unclear, but hospitals, schools, historic landmarks, and civil infrastructure are being destroyed with the clear intent of collective punishment. It is abhorrent, heinous, and criminal.
@mcnado their reporting is correct. The goal is to balkanize Iran and turn it into a failed state in a state of perpetual civil war so that Israel can have unfettered regional dominance. This is Israel’s wet dream come true. Deplorable.
@sayonaraminasan I don’t think that will play out that way for Israel. It will just mean they won’t know who to negotiate with when the non-stop terror attacks start.
@mcnado indeed. They think they can pull a Gaza 2, but the Iranians won’t have it. This war is going to bleed the U.S and won’t have the desired effects for either of the warmongers I reckon.
@mcnado @sayonaraminasan I was thinking that yesterday. If you kill the whole upper echelon of the government in the place you have attacked, who will have the authority to surrender unconditionally? Imagine (...) that someone bombed the Knesset or the White House or Mar a Lago, who would surrender on behalf of Israel/US?

@ArchaeoIain Yep! Leadership has already been for the most part decentralized, there is no hydras head to decapitate so this was a non starter of a plan to begin with. Killing the supreme leader simply has turned him into a martyr for the believers and has more likely than not galvanized a sense of nationalism among the broader population in the very least, even those of non-persian identity. We can hope that the different ethnic groups don’t fall for the bait and realize they while they have their internal differences, that some level of unity is necessary in order to defeat the external threat that is Israeli-American imperialism.

@mcnado

@mcnado And, to all the "Iraq is why we needed Trump" MAGAs out there, is far, far worse.
@mcnado

Iranian schools, hospital and landmarks among civilian sites hit during US-Israeli strikes

A local in Tehran tell BBC Verify that the city has been turned into a "ghost town" as residents flee.

@mcnado Iran is not Gaza. Iran is a theocratic dictatorship that will and has retaliated against soft civilian targets. They have been preparing for a US attack for 50 years.
Gaza is ethnic cleansing, a crime against humanity, of a small civilian population without a standing army or advanced technology or a massive asymmetric arsenal of drones and cyberweapons.
The US and Israel picked a fight like Putin did with his smug blitzkrieg invasion of Ukraine they were sure was going to be a cakewalk.
Iran isn't Gaza. Trump has learned nothing.
@pattykimura @mcnado that’s who’s making the calls on this, is it? He has a voice in his ear and trump does whatever the last voice he heard told him to do. Until someone else worms him out this is Israel unfettered. Netanyahu doesn’t need to answer for another countries attack, he also gets free armaments, and non “special” soldiers to throw away. Trump gets to prove he answers to no one and he gets another Epstein distractor.

@passwordsarehard4 @pattykimura @mcnado

Yep ...
Netanyahu knows much of the US believes that Israel is their god's chosen land and with 'their' land reclaimed comes the Rapture ... so they will always be on Israel's side.

@MyView @passwordsarehard4 @mcnado

Not all Americans are of the three Abrahamic religions. Not all US Christians or US Jews are supporters of Likud. In fact, most US Jews disagree with the government of Israel, and even more reject Netanyahu.

@pattykimura @passwordsarehard4 @mcnado

Not all Australians are either ... yet until this latest Israeli Genocide they would say Israel "should have all of their land back" even if it has been a thousand years ...

But when told on that basis the Indigenous Australians should have their land back even if only been a couple of hundred years ... the veil of bigoted racism comes down ...

And most of the Australian Jews disagree with our government's stance on the matter.

They spoke out and protested against Herzog's invitation by the politically Zionist Australian Jewish Association who were doing the lobbying, lies and propaganda that all criticism of the genocide was Anti-Semitic ... but the AJA was fully supported by the Media so only the AJA's voices were heard.

All they could do was speak up on Social Media ... but the AJA won ... and not only have the Political Zionists won that case, Australia's 'special envoy on Anti-Semitism' who is being paid million$, has brought in the policy that the entire country must bow down to her/their version of Anti-Semitism, which means any person can be prosecuted for any and all criticism of Israel ...

And is a donor to another political group known as Advance Australia ... who actually want to take us back to the authoritarian Australia of the 1800s ...

And when the world saw Israelis setting up places of comfort to watch the bombing of children ... and Israel's future mothers taunting Palestinian children by eating and wasting food in front of them ... people wonder why actual Anti-Semitism is increasing ...

@pattykimura @passwordsarehard4 @mcnado

To name a few …. Hajo Meyer, Jewish Voice for Peace, Norman Finkelstein and the Jewish Council of Australia.
Media such as Antony Loewenstein, the Jewish Independent and the Jerusalem Post … Plus the 7 below …
But all we hear is what the AJA says.

@mcnado
It is the same terrible playbook for centuries.

If you want to destroy a tribe/people, destroy their culture and heritage.

@mcnado That was my reaction, too, when I was reading about what's happening in Tehran — it sounds like Gaza. Hospitals and residential neighborhoods are getting bombed. Food is scarce. How in hell does this align with any of rationales given for this starting this war?

‘Apocalypse’ in Tehran after heaviest day of US-Israeli strikes

Highways choke with those fleeing as others shelter with nowhere left to run

The Telegraph
@jeridansky damn that’s a horrible read and honestly if you didn’t know it could be read exactly like as if it was happening in Gaza or Iran. Nothing has changed. Frak.
@mcnado that's why rest of the west (bar Spain & Ireland?) are fully supporting it? - not by providing material assistance like they did in Gaza but by not condemning, spreading the same old propoganda how it is the attacked is the bad guy in all of this and doing nothing meaningful to stop it as if they would act say it was China that started all of this. Funny how quickly West 2.0 Marketing guy from Davos backtracked not getting behind a pedo & his blackmailers.
@mcnado Well they are carpet bombing the fuck out of it. This wasn't simply about regime change. Isreal is planning on expanding just like the United states. The Forth Reich is here.

@mcnado However with the Russians (and probably the Chinese) backing Iran, there will increasingly be a proxy war with the west - and particularly Europe. The west will starved of oil the lifeblood of economic activity.
Once the gulf states are destabilised due to their inability to rely on the income from oil and tourism their populations will revolt.

This is likely to be a huge turning point in the world order which is exactly what Putin wants, and the Americans & Israelis are playing straight into his hands.

@MikeFromLFE @mcnado Everyone can see the real villains are the US and Israël , with most europeans following their lead. To Blame Putin is deflection, and also lazy.

@MikeFromLFE @mcnado

🤔 Gee, sure seems like the ones producing renewable (read, non-oil dependent) energy infrastructure and who have been rapidly de-carbonizing their economies will end up ahead.... 🤔

@mcnado Add to this that POTUS has said that Cuba is next, without the merest ripple of condemnation from the “international community”. After that? China? Nigeria? Canada? Spain?

The USA must be stopped. The only questions are when and by whom. I suspect USians themselves won’t do it. Their “allies” have shown their complicity. The contemporary Axis is much worse than the WW2 version. The UN needs to step up quickly.

@Tattered @mcnado

I don’t think that’s gonna fly.
The UN has no army. Until 2017 the US provided the bulk of any armed forces the UN mandated.

@OneInterestingFact @mcnado Me, neither. The Hague Group, perhaps. I mean somebody has to do something to stop the US from killing people overseas.
@mcnado The entire Republican Party and a decent number of Democrats need to be referred to the International Criminal Court for crimes against humanity.
@mcnado According to the Guardian, Gandhi Hospital was badly damaged by bombing a target that was (too) close to it. The girls school was bombed by negligence - the land had been part of the naval base until 2016 & an AI allegedly specified the target. Yesterday I heard from actual lead AI users that LLM AI is lazy & often omits specified steps. Relying on it to check targets are allowed is a war crime.
These aren't systematic punishment.

@mcnado

Israel--and ISIS--and now the USA. Same demented, destructive, fanatic-fueled playbook.

@mcnado War criminals - no better than warlords with child armies - depose those devoid of humanity
@mcnado And Russia is doing to Ukraine. Attacking civilian targets.
@mcnado The Holocaust was abhotent. And still, we never should have given them nukes.
@mcnado won't hold my breath for them to state that conclusion though
