The next thing she knew Eftena’s arms were round her, holding her tight. She returned the hug and then Yelantera was there too, though Miralees wondered whether the girl had even the slightest understanding of why she had been shouted at, or why they were now hugging.

“And Stupid was worried about you,” she finished without much conviction.

On cue, the gryphon’s beak nudged them. They lost their balance and fell to the ground in a damp heap.
