Post-AlgoRhythms obligatory unstructured thoughts:

How about, if you were fortunate enough to make it, add your thoughts here in this thread:
Up for that?
Or maybe you were able to watch/listen from the stream?

@synte
It is good that the variety of live coding platforms continues to be wide ranging. I had feared it would become a monoculture with the recent influx of newcomers having strudel as their entry point.

Love seeing wacky experimental stuff such as live-cranking a pipe organ that is live coded in realtime

@synte
Comparing my 1st AlgoRhythms (Aug 2025) with last night, it has very noticeably grown significantly. 6 months ago all attendees could fit around the table. And the sign-up sheet wouldn't be completely filled in at the end of the 1st hour meetup.

We are now doubling up on benches for the round of introductions. The sign-up sheet also filled in minutes--
the audio performance column filled up in about 1 minute, with the visual column still mostly blank but got filled in shortly after.

@synte I started wondering if London AlgoRave had now reached a critical mass where Peckham AlgoRhythms would become the main venue (the place that headline acts are booked) and there would now need to be satellite venues/events where the more shy novices (such as myself) would have the opportunity to practice live coding in the presence of their peers.

Breaking out into loosely formed tutorial groups was a bit chaotic. I did find Peter Kappus in one corner giving an impromptu strudel lesson

@synte I tried to offer some background commentary to curious first-timers -- "That's Tidal Cycles", "That's SuperCollider", "Bogdan just did a from-scratch set", "He developed Fluff entirely on his own", etc.

I think I need to read up more on the history of these platforms, as Peter had put me on the spot with regard to the live coding origin story, and I didn't know the answer. Maybe we need someone to act as an onboarding fresher tour guide or something.

@synte And I finally got to see @mtrc 's Magpie/Picotron live coding tool. Nice idea getting more crowd participation using the wireless game controllers. Pity it was towards the latter part of the night by which time the crowd had already halved in size. I myself had to leave in the middle of @beewebb 's set to catch a train to High Wycombe.

Overall a great experience as always. Look forward to attending more. Planning to buy a bulk supply of earplugs to avoid worsening my tinnitus!

@bornach @mtrc @beewebb they also supply earplugs at the bar! :)
I try to remind people but sometimes forget
@synte @bornach @beewebb I bought some reusable ones for algorhythms this time, you're setting a good example dan haha
@bornach was lovely to see you as always!
@bornach yes, this is an interesting stage!
we have found some bumper months can be followed by quieter ones. But also, things like Algoravioli are happening. Part of the vision of AlgoRhythms is to spawn other events.
We could also go the other way and try other Algorave style events for booking and paying artists.
Also bear in mind it is rumoured that in algorave there are no headliners 🤭
@synte @bornach yeah algoravioli!!!!!!!!!
@bornach i also think the tutorial section was kinda short. Like, that could've had a whole hour of its own. @synte
