"Data centers to meet the explosive demand for artificial intelligence (AI) burn huge quantities of electricity. This drives up the cost of electricity to everyday consumers and can increase our dependence on power plants that emit climate-warming pollutants and typically are located in economically disadvantaged communities.

The Power for the People Act of 2026 (S.3682) takes an important first step of ensuring that data centers, not Americans, foot the bill for their own electricity costs."
