Call me crazy, but I think ADHD assessment and treatment for ADHD should be ADHD-friendly.
You shouldn't need good executive function to access ADHD assessment and treatment. And the fact that you do shows who's designing these systems

@structuredsucc Actually all aspects of this treatment are hard.
A) Getting into the treatment is hard
B) Staying in the treatment is hard
C) Getting back into treatment, if it stops, is hard.
Call me crazy but its almost like they dont want you to be treated for ADHD.
@structuredsucc I will be forever grateful to the doctor I went to who, when I said I need to get back on ADHD meds, gave me a form to fill out, asked if I had highschool records "but it's okay if you don't, I know that's a sensitive thing for trans people" and believed me when I described what I was going through.
All that in contrast to the other doctors I had who, even when they had my full medical history including my past ADHD prescription, would refuse to listen to me when I said I needed to get back on my meds because "you seem to be doing pretty well so far, and you've got anxiety and won't the ADHD make that worse?"
@mpark @Dio9sys @structuredsucc
hear! hear!
Honestly, having a doctor that is willing to actually listen is the dream.
I know that I'm not always right about what's going on with my body, but listening to "something's wrong with this" and trusting that something is in fact wrong and working together to figure it out and maybe make it better is what doctors should be doing imo.
@structuredsucc YES, this is EXACTLY my experience. This is what I went through trying to get my kid an appointment for assessment, and on top of my own frustration, I kept thinking, "The system wants to treat my kid as an adult but there is NO WAY they could have navigated all this on their own." 😭
The U.S. (mental) healthcare system is infuriating. I had to seek mental healthcare for my college-aged kid. They already have a mental health provider, but that provider recommended a service they don't offer themselves. This meant we had to: 1. Wait for the mental health provider to do whatever they do behind the scenes so my kid's PCP could actually make the referral. 1/ #MentalHealthCare #HealthCare
