Masuka the cat instantly became a star after being in “A Girl Walks Home Alone at Night”(2014). Her human, Sina Sayyah, was both the film’s producer and the late cousin of director Ana Lily Amirpour. Both Sina Sayyah and Masuka passed away in 2018 within months of each other. May their memories always be cherished.

“A Girl Walks Home Alone at Night” (2014) was shot over the course of 24 days in Kern County, California. Using anamorphic lenses director Ana Lily Amirpour utilized a mix of cinematography inspired by Spaghetti Westerns and German Expressionism. With a cast and crew that’s largely of Iranian descent and the film’s dialogue being entirely in Farsi, it is the considered to be the first Middle Eastern vampire film.
