Just a head’s up: There’s a lot of disturbing and potentially triggering imagery and situations in this week’s #LaEsoterica features. If this isn’t for you I reccomend this Q& A between the director of “A Girl Walks Home Alone at Night”, Ana Lily Amirpour and film legend Roger Corman (https://youtu.be/egwLenvNG0E?si=m-aYgH1Gszd7fedD)

First up we have the coming-of-age “Lick the Star” (1998) directed by Sofia Coppola ( https://youtu.be/61lC3U6qYrc?si=AwKevPonrJlcDL_J), starring actual teenage girls and filmed at an actual Junior High School.

Mabel Normand (November 9, 1893-February 23, 1930) began her career as an artist’s model in the early 1900s and quickly moved on to working in film for various NYC-based studios, where she caught the eye of Mack Sennett of Keystone Studios, which she would join in 1912.

Mabel Normand (November 10, 1892– February 23, 1930) was one of the first female filmmakers, she also had 200+ film credits as an actress. She frequently worked with Charlie Chaplin (who she also discovered and mentored!), Mack Sennett, and Roscoe“Fatty” Arbuckle. She is, also, believed to be the first woman to be pied and to pie on film.

IMHO, one of the best #films and collection of films is found on #CriterionChannel in the collection: WOMEN MAKE FILM

First, there's the amazing 14-part #documentary by one of my favorite filmmakers, Mark Cousins, called WOMEN MAKE FILM. Then that's followed by a number of films by the filmmakers mentioned in the documentary spanning the history of #cinema.
