A ★★★ review of Lick the Star (1998)

[English] Sofia Coppola's first appearance behind the camera shows in a condensed 14 minutes what she will develop in her next projects: A modern take on young women on their way to adulthood who are allowed to be casual, catty and confident. With the 90s grunge vibe through the female-fronted alternative rock soundtrack, black and white images that could be from the 40s, a nostalgia builds up from today's perspective, which is supported by the informality of the amateur actors.
