First of today's eight is a guide to upgrading an Elegoo Phecda laser engraver/cutter with limit switches for improved repeatability.
Then a couple of announcement from Mobile World Congress, starting with Quectel's announcement of the FGH200M Wi-Fi HaLow module - a sub-gigahertz spin-off of Wi-Fi which promises low-power long-range communication.
Quectel reckons the new module can handle over 8,000 device connections(!)
While Nordic Semiconductor is focusing more on cellular IoT with new nrF92, nRF93 series parts - with non-terrestrial network (NTN) satellite connectivity and a roadmap to 5G eRedCap (the "Enhanced Reduced Capabilities" standard which... err, "enhances" RedCap by dropping the throughput limit from 250Mb/s to 10Mb/s...) support.
A #crowdfunding campaign for a feature-packed #Meshtastic-inspired emergency comms radio next - massive battery, push-to-talk, and it'll even charge your phone over USB or a wireless charging coil(!)
It *is* a Kickstarter from a company with no proven track record, though, and the demo of the prototype is a little clunky. Oh, and I refuse to believe that the 1W solar panel on the back is anything other than decorative.
A salvaged ATX power supply and a raid of the parts bin inspired this next project: a 3D-printed two-channel benchtop power supply with live voltage and current read-outs.
Markus Optiz' latest project is claimed to be "the smallest DIY joystick in the world," yet is made using off-the-shelf parts - a Seeed Studio XIAO ESP32C6 with a five-way joystick soldered on top dead-but style. Communicates via Espressif's ESP-NOW 2.4GHz protocol.
