Cannot describe how much I *hate* eSIM as a technology. We spent decades fighting the cellular companies here in the US, finally dragging them into the civilized world of LTE and physical SIM cards… and now the shitheels have conspired to bring us back to the mother-may-I world of the CDMA 1990s, when you had to call your carrier to beg them to authorize your new phone.
This future fucking sucks.
I hope the Europeans hold the line on requiring physical SIM card slots on phones. Since obviously, expecting anything pro-consumer to come out of the US right now is a ridiculous thought.

All we get now are Apple iPhones, Google Pixels, and a bunch of Korean and Chinese versions of Android.
